The Yost LV-4 is a lightly duty bench vise. 4-1/2 in. Swivel base vise is ideal for home shop. Manufactured from cast iron with steel vise jaws, threaded spindle assembly and locking T-handle are chrome plated. Vise can be rotated up to 270° on its base for convenient work positioning. Anvil surface is integrated into the vise and is convenient for straightening small steel parts that are being worked on. Built-in pipe jaws allow holding small pipes and tubes up to 1 in. Dia. Vise is finished in durable hammer blue color.

Purchased this mainly for building golf clubs (so I didn’t need anything super heavy duty), but also needed a decent vise for any home projects. Had a small clamp on vise that worked, but just wasn’t as good as a bench mount. Have been skeptical of the small home vises due to many bad reviews. I read the reviews on this LV-4 and one in particular changed my mind. That reviewer stated that in his opinion, this is not a home vise, but rather closer to a small industrial grade vise. That alleviated any concerns. It is now installed and just works great! Very smooth operation. Couldn’t be happier. Great quality at a very good price!

I got 2 of these Yost vises on sale, $27 ea. Chinese, which is OK, I don’t need high-end vises. One had a broken swivel-base, but HD replaced it without hassle. I didn’t expect much. Surprise — they’re decent light-duty vises. A bit of grease to screw and base-plate, & they’re smooth as butter.

I tightened the swivel to much on the one this replaces and broke the whole side out of the base. This one seems to be stronger especially since it has 4 mounting bolts instead of the 3 from the previous vise.

It serves the purpose that I needed, a small/medium vise to hold chainsaw bar and other equipment in the yard tool shed. My cousin and I were comparing today’s vise construction with our grandfather’s shop vise. How did we come to accept modern mediocrity so quickly. Cost, I guess.
