Compatible with NVMe PCIe M.2 solid-state drives that have form factors of 2230 (30mm), 2242 (42mm), 2260 (60mm), and 2280 (80mm), the NVMe PCIe M.2 to USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C SSD Enclosure from Sabrent boasts a black aluminum shell that’s designed to be portable and durable. The enclosure’s heat-dissipating vents help it to remain cool while using less power. Equipped with a 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C interface, the enclosure is backward compatible with 5 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 1. Plug-and-play functionality means that no additional drivers are required for use. A USB Type-C to Type-A cable and a USB Type-A to Type-C adapter are included.
Please note that this enclosure only supports NVMe PCIe M.2 SSDs and does not support M.2 SATA SSDs.

I had a SurfacePro4 die and needed to save my data. Pulled the NVMe SSD card out and used this device to connect it to an older desktop that had a failing hard drive. Set it to boot from USB. Works great. You’d never know it is not an internal SSD. 4 stars because the USB-C adapter does not work at all, as others have said. But I didn’t need that anyway.

The Sabrent enclosure was perfect to repurpose the SSD I took out of my Dell 7700 AIO. It is built like a tank and come with the appropriate cables and connectors.

Good – I like the metal housing enclosure BAD – the supplied USB cable caused 2 1/2 hours of failures and delays on 1st use. After 3 failures using 2 different OS cloning programs and extremely Slow formatting of a new drive, I switched out the supplied cable with one of my own quality usb c to c cables. 15 minutes later I was finished with the formatting and cloning!

Isn’t the cheapest option, but it’s worth it. The build quality and material used is made to last. Easy to assemble.

I use this with a Samsung 970 NVMe for a clone back up drive. The desktop I built has a 970 drive as primary and I use Samsung Migration to create a clone as a back up. Works nice and is well constructed. All metal for heat dissipation.

I needed this drive bay to upgrade my nvme drive. Very easy to use and was exactly what I needed. I’m all done with it so now it serves as my backup storage device and has a copy of my Win10 OS.

I thought this was a little expensive for an enclosure, but I’ve never had any problems with it. Cloning my SSD was a breeze, and initializing a new drive was fast and easy.
