Works well/as advertized. The only “ding” (and hence four points) is that the instructions weren’t the easiest to follow, and yes, we read them! We even called the help line and they took so long to look up an answer we found an online video and got the answer to our questions. Once you get used to the programming, which really isn’t that hard, it’s a snap to use.

There’s no more need to pre-soak dried beans with this electric pressure cooker! So far I’ve tried it with both black beans and garbanzo beans (chickpeas), which I put in the pot in their dried state, added the appropriate amount of water, chose the bean setting on the cooker, and voila, just over an hour later I had fully cooked beans without needing to pre-soak. This is the first pressure cooker (electric or non-electric) I’ve owned and I didn’t know very much about them, other than that they can cook things a lot quicker. For dried beans that is definitely true. On this pressure cooker, the bean setting is pre-determined at 40 minutes. It takes another 20 minutes or so for the cooker to build up enough pressure, and after they’re done cooking, it takes another 20 minutes or so to de-pressurize, but altogether it’s much quicker than the traditional method of pre-soaking and cooking in a pot on your gas or electric stove.The instruction booklet that comes with this pressure cooker is very comprehensive and if you don’t know much about pressure cookers, you should read it fully just so you know what you’re dealing with. Each time you use it, you have to make sure the valves in the lid are clean and free of build-up, the lid is locked in position and the steam release ring is closed. I was a little surprised that even though this pressure cooker has a bean-cooking option, there’s nothing in the instructions to tell you how to cook them. I did have to do some research on it, and that’s when I found out that when cooking beans in a pressure cooker, it is not necessary to pre-soak them. The first time I cooked black beans in it, before I knew I didn’t have to pre-soak them, I did pre-soak them and cooked them in the pressure cooker afterward, and they came out fine although they were falling apart a bit. The next time I cooked beans without pre-soaking they held together better. Also, even though the pre-set cooking time is 40 minutes, there’s no indication if this is for one pound or two pounds or an even larger amount of beans. I usually like cook at least two pounds of beans at a time. I tried two pounds of black beans on the 40 minute setting (which you cannot manually adjust) and that worked as well as cooking only one pound of beans. Other than dried beans, I’ve also used this pressure cooker to cook rice, both white jasmine and brown basmati rice. I find that the white jasmine rice comes out rather sticky (this may also be due to the brand), but the brown basmati rice came out nice and dry. There is a rice cooking guide in the instruction booklet, but it seems to be mostly for cooking rice on the stove. The pre-set cooking time for rice on this pressure cooker is 8 minutes. Again, there is no indication in the instructions as to whether this is only for 1 cup of rice or more. I like to cook at least 3 cups of rice at a time. I did cook 3 cups of rice, plus the appropriate amount of water per the instructions on the rice bag, on the rice setting and the rice came out well. Again, the cooking time itself is 8 minutes, but it has to build pressure, and for rice that takes an additional 10 minutes or so. However, I think this is still quicker than if you cooked 3 cups of rice in a pot on your stove. Also, be aware that you have to let the cooker de-pressurize after cooking anything. You can either do that naturally by just waiting 20-30 minutes, or you can open the steam-release ring or pressing the steam-release button a number of times, which you can do if you’re in a hurry and don’t want to wait for the cooker to depressurize on its own. The last two options do create a large of amount of fairly hot steam to be released, so be careful you don’t burn yourself. I haven’t yet used all the other options on this pressure cooker, which are for cooking meat, chicken and fish, as well as a browning option, slow-cooking, delayed cook time, and cooking time. This last option is not described in the instruction booklet either. It turns out it is a pre-set cooking time of 15 minutes, which I guess could be used for any type of food, but seems appropriate for certain vegetables. You can also manually adjust the pressure to low; the default option is cooking on high pressure. Also, after cooking, it automatically goes into keep warm mode up to 24 hours, but you can turn this off manually.There’s also a small plastic dew collector attached to the back of the cooker. Mine did get filled with cooking liquid or dew when I cooked the garbanzo beans. I found the dew collector cup rather challenging to remove and when I finally managed to pull it off, all the liquid spilled out. Furthermore, this pressure cooker comes with a steamer basket, a plastic measuring cup and a plastic rice scoop. This is truly a very versatile pressure cooker and seems to be of good quality. I have not found it to be noisy either. When it’s building up pressure, just before it goes into actual cooking mode, I’ve noticed it starts hissing a bit and pre-releases a bit of steam from the lid, but this stops once it begins the cooking process which is indicated by a beep. Again, if you’re not familiar with pressure cooking, you should read the instruction booklet thoroughly to familiarize yourself with the process and all the options this cooker has to offer. So far I’m pleased with how well it has cooked dried beans and rice, and I’m looking forward to trying out some of the other options.

This appears to be well constructed pressure cooker with a stainless steal exterior. A roast takes 45 minutes to cook and comes out tender and moist. The browning feature is a nice plus. The non-stick interior is helpful, but not as effective as I would hope for. The lid seals well and can hinge open, but fitting the lid properly is a bit confusing, requiring the user to line-up arrows molded into the lid and body of the cooker, then rotating shut. The arrows are hard to see and the instructions don’t explain the process. The inner pan is relatively easy to clean. The cooker comes with a steam basket and has a fast rice cooking mode. I wish it came with more than six recipes for pressure cooker cooking. Overall, it’s a nice product.

The manual simply said to close the lid and turn counter-clockwise, but it does not tell you that it has to be in a certain position and that there are arrows on the lid (I did not see these because the instructions did not mention them). When I finally figured that out, it did work well and performed as expected. The lever on the lid for Seal/Release is easy to use, as is the button on top for steam release.The removable non-stick pot holds 6L/6.3Qt of food. The power cord is about 35″ long with a 3-prong plug. I like that a steam basket is included. The manual has 5 recipes and a chart for rice cooking. The unit beeps 5 times when timer has counted down, and switches to Keep Warm for 24 hours. Although it can be set up for a 24 hour delay, I am not comfortable letting food sit in room temperature, so I rarely use this feature.Cleanup is quick and easy.

I had never used a pressure cooker before this, so I was a bit nervous. I shouldn’t have been! The Kalorik pressure cooker is so easy to use. I decided to try out a roast for my first recipe. The sear feature worked great. It heated up very quickly and gave the meat a fantastic, even brown all over. After that it was as easy as adding water, seasoning, and setting the timer. I had to use the steam release to add my potatoes 15 minutes before the end-an interesting experience! I would recommend making sure it isn’t underneath a cabinet and has plenty of open space above it to vent because a LOT of steam comes out. Finally the timer went off and I had perfectly cooked potatoes and a delicious roast to enjoy-in 45 minutes! You can’t beat that! I can’t wait to try out some other recipes. I haven’t had a chance to use the steamer basket yet-though I’m sure it works just as great as every other feature. Love this pressure cooker and I would recommend it to anyone, even a rookie like me.

The Kalorik 6.25 Quart Stainless Steel Perfect Sear Pressure Cooker serves as a slow cooker, rice cooker, steamer, fryer, and pressure cooker in one compact, easy to use unit. The 5 preset menus for meat, chicken, fish, rice and beans and 7 built-in safety mechanisms allow me to feel confident in trying new cooking methods without getting burned (pun intended). I successfully cooked a pot of beans in the low-pressure mode by using the high-heat searing function to brown the ham and sauté the onion then, added the beans and water to cook rapidly at high-pressure for a tender and tasty side dish. The low-pressure, high heat mode will heat cooking oil for frying meats or vegetables. The wire-mesh basket steams both broccoli and asparagus quickly to a perfect texture for serving with my most elegant meals. The steam release worked really well allowing me to add items to the slow cook stuffed chicken as I was cooking and to check for doneness. There are 11 easy to identify buttons on the front of the pressure cooker that require a little practice combining their functions to get the desired outcome. The functions are forgiving so don’t be afraid to check the operating manual and try again. The rice cooker preset produced perfectly textured rice without any interference from the cook. I was able to sear some cubed beef to near tender status and add vegetables and a roux prepared on the range-top to produce a flavorful topping for rice. The high-pressure mode of the pressure cooker works well for tenderizing country-style pork chops with the seasoning cooked through the meat. I pressure-boiled a pot-full of Irish potatoes with rosemary, onion and garlic to use in a German potato salad. The automatic stay warm and delayed start feature allowed me to cook the potatoes while away from home. My next task will be cooking a Sunday dinner of beef roast with garlic, potatoes and bell pepper while away in church. This one, compact, unit can be used for multiple cooking methods and is a great kitchen space saver.

We have never used a pressure cooker before this one. My mom used one for years at home and my wife was a little nervous using it because it was an old-fashioned version. She had safety concerns. This pressure cooker has multi levels of safety built in. We cooked green beans in 30 minutes versus seven hours on the stove top on low. What a savings in time! You can also use it as a steamer but we have not used that feature yet.

Pressure cookers have been around for quite some time but have been overly complicated to use. This one is easy. The control panel is self explanatory with little learning curve. It may be confusing at first but it came with good instructions. The performance is awesome, it really can cook 2lbs of boneless chicken in 15 min, ground beef in 5 min. The only frustrating thing is also a good thing how it will not let you open it until every last bit of pressure is out. some time is takes a few more second than you would like but again, That’s a good thing. If you like to cook but don’t have hours to be in the kitchen then hurry out and get one of these!

It has a lock to secure the lid and also has where you can keep steam open and closed and also a knob to press down for faster steam release.
