I have never cooked with a pressure cooker in my life. My mother had one of the old school ones that the thought of using horrified me. This new pressure cooker is very different from the ones of yesterday. It is digital and it seems like it is much safer to use. So far I have cooked peas, chili, pork chops, risotto, rice, rice pudding and soup inside of the pressure cooker. They have all came out quite well. The pressure cooker cooks quickly but I was a bit dismayed to see how long it takes for the pressure to build inside of it. If the recipe says that it takes 15 minutes to cook, you can expect it to really take about 30 or so due to the time that it takes the pressure to build. There are multiple settings on the front of it and once you use it a few times, you can easily get the hang of it. I really like the browning feature where you can brown meat or veggies before you start the pressure cooking process. I used it to brown onions and mushrooms and it keeps you from having to dirty up another pot or pan. The instructions leave a bit to be desired. Not knowing anything about pressure cookers, I really didn’t realize the pressure release functions. The directions were not the most clear about how to adjust the settings and I ended up with rice all over my cabinets and everything else when I used quick pressure release the first time I used it. I learned my lesson and haven’t had any mishaps with it since that. The tray that is included in the box comes in very handy when you want to cook meats. I cooked pork chops in it by setting them on the tray and they were easy to remove. My favorite thing about the cooker is the fact that the bowl can be removed and cleaned super easily. It is non-stick and so simple to clean. The cooker is quite bulky. Don’t expect to be able to sit it on the counter and not have it in the way. I have had a difficult time finding somewhere to put it since it is so large and takes up so much space. I guess it is a good thing if you need to fix a meal for a large family. I had a hard time cleaning the outside of it when I got rice all over it–the outside does not clean as easily as the inside pot. Basically, it is a great way to cook items like beans and soup that typically take a lot longer to cook. It’s also good for rice because I am someone that just cannot cook rice properly. I have made rice three times in the pressure cooker and it has come out properly each and every time. I would highly recommend this product because it is simple to use once you get the hang of it and it cooks very well. I do take a few points off because it takes so long for the pressure to build but as long as you factor that in to the time that you preparing a meal, you should be just fine.

I was very excited to try a pressure cooker for cooking food. I have used one for years for canning, but this was my first time with one designed for preparing dinner. I first tried pulled pork using a rub I had on hand and the cooking steps in the cookbook that came with it. So tender, fast and flavorful. The rub and sauce flavors permeated the entire pork tenderloin. Next I tried pulled chicken – I put the chicken breasts in while still mostly frozen and it cooked for 35 minutes. I took the breasts out to shred them and they fell apart as I did so! I also tried mushroom risotto using the browning function and then the rice function. So fast and easy- I can’t wait to try a pot roast and rice. My new favorite cooking tool! The only issue I have is the display- it looks like it was installed crooked, but it functions just fine. I was very drawn to this model of pressure cooker because of the multiple cooking method options, size of cooking vessel, brand reputation and experience, and attractive appearance. Our first cooking experience was using it as a rice cooker. It was not a good experience. We had steam escaping from not only the pressure valve but also by the back hinge. We may not have had the gasket inserted correctly? It took a long time for the cooker to get up to temperature (13+ minutes) before the actual cooking time (timer). This caused what I thought would be a short cooking time, based on the instructions, to be more than twice as long. The rice was very dry and not cooked. We have made rice a couple of times since. We have not had subsequent problems with steam escaping by the back hinge. It does take a much longer time to get up to pressure, before the timer starts, than I would expect. The rice has been good, though not excellent. It just seems dry and hard; neither sticky rice nor light and fluffy. I have not used the slow cooker feature yet. I have a pressure cooker from 35+ years ago, that over time I have stopped using. I am excited to begin using an electronic pressure cooker which I feel will be safer and “protect me” for user error. Using a manual pressure cooker has also scared me a bit.I do wish that the recipe book had a few more recipes in each category to give a better orientation on how to use in the various cooking methods. I look forward to continuing to experiment with my new cooker.I was hoping the cooker could be used as a pressure fryer, as well. The instruction manual did not speak specifically to this cooking method, so I went to the internet. I did not find information as to whether this was an acceptable cooking method. I called Black and Decker customer service. The service representative did not know the answer to my question, but was extremely helpful and diligent. She quickly sought the expertise of her supervisor and returned to my call. I’ve been wanting one of those “pot cookers” for quite a while now. I was always scared and worried they would explode and I’d have a huge mess to clean. Then I was offered to be sent this free to try! What?! Heck yeah! I was even still leary of using it once I got it…finally i found an easy recipe and decided to try it out. I put all my food in there, set it, hit the button, and ran. Hehe. Watched it build pressure from across the room, then it started hissing. Woah…lol. Cooked for 20 minutes and it was done. It was a recipe where i had to move the switch to let the steam escape. I used a ruler haha. I made soy sauce chicken. Which i make on a weekly basis on the stove. Let me tell you, this was the most tender, juicy chicken i’ve ever had in my life! I was shocked! After that i got more confident in using it and have made many other things since then. Mac n cheese, baked potatoes, beef stew…and have many more saved that i’m waiting to try! All in all, this is an amazing product and i dont know how i’ve lived without it!

I was excited to receive this Black & Decker 6 Qt Pressure Cooker for review. I had pinned a lot of different recipes to try. Little did I know how much this appliance can do and how well it does it! This appliance sits nicely on my counter top, without taking up a ton of space. The directions to use it are clear and easy to understand. The appliance came with a recipe book, which has tasty and EASY recipes in it. I tried 3 of them! My current slow cooker has been acting up for awhile, and this appliance replaces it! It has a high and low slow cooker setting. I really love that it can also do soups, white rice, brown rice, and it has a steaming feature! The browning feature is great for making one pot recipes that start with onions or butter. I love that the interior pot is nonstick – you can literally just wipe it out with a cloth! Simple. It was very easy to cook different recipes. I made a deconstructed lasagna, steamed brussels in bacon and butter, macaroni & cheese, white rice, and scrambled eggs! The possibilities are endless. My favorite feature is that although I think it takes, overall, the same amount of time to make mac n chz in this pressure cooker as it does on the stove top, I don’t have to watch this pot! Simple to click on the lid, set the function and time, and then walk away and let it work. When it’s done, the timer goes off and it shuts off for you. You can easily move the lever to allow the steam to escape, and when it is ready, the lid is easy to remove with the large front handle. I’m going to replace a few countertop appliances with this!

This is one amazing product! I received this and was so excited to try it out. Its a multifunction appliance and a life saver for my dinner time chaos! It comes with an instruction guide, super easy to understand and use. It also comes with a recipe booklet. I tried the mac and cheese, it is now a family favorite and with minimal effort and go to for this bunch. Its so tasty and creamy and you literally just put the ingredients in turn it on and presto you have cheesy comfort food in a matter of 10 mins without having to wait for water to boil and pasta to cook then add things and stir. What impressed me was I had a frozen solid 3 lb roast. I put it the pressure cooker on brown and it defrosted it and browned it. Afterward I was able to cut it into chunks and set the pressure cooker and in less than an hour we had delicious roast and cheesy mac n cheese! There is also a meat sauce recipe for spaghetti using the slow cooker setting, it is to die for! It made enough for my family of six to pour over eggplant and the pasta, not to mention left overs for sloppy joes for the next days lunch. It had so much flavor! Best part there is no dirtying several dishes to make any of these recipes, you brown, and cook all in one pan! It also comes with a tray to keep things from sitting in the liquid so it won’t be too mushy, a spoon and ladle to avoid scratching of the ever to easy to clean no stick surface. This makes the most beautiful beans as well. I’ve tried making pinto beans and I just tossed in the seasonings, added the beans and water and turned it on. After 35 minutes we had the most flavorful, beautiful beans they impressed my mom! Now that I’ve had the experience of using this pressure cooker, I must say I don’t know how I’ve gotten along without it.
