Designed for those who need portable storage for their photos, videos, music, documents, and more, the silver 1TB G-DRIVE mobile USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C External Hard Drive from G-Technology provides users with 1TB of plug-and-play storage and a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C interface that supports data transfer speeds of up to 140 MB/s. It comes preformatted HFS+ for macOS 10.11 and later and can also be used with Windows 10, 8.1, and 7 via a simple reformat. The G-DRIVE mobile is compatible with the Thunderbolt 3 interface, is powered solely using the USB or Thunderbolt bus, and comes housed in an aluminum case. Included is a USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable and a USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable that are compatible with USB 3.1 Gen 1, which is also known as USB 3.0. Protection is provided by a limited 3-year warranty.

I am in the process of upgrading my entire collection of backup drives and changing my backup storage approach. While my current G-Tech G-Drive mobile 750GB drives with FW800 and USB 2 continue to work perfectly after years of use, I am transitioning to the faster, higher capacity 1TB/USB 3 G-Tech mobile drives for convenience. I will use this drive as a computer backup and store it in an offsite safe deposit box. Future drives will be my carry along drives when working away from home. This external drive has a small footprint, and I believe it is thinner than the FW800/USB 2 or Thunderbolt mobile drives. These drives are very reliable. I’ve had great success with other G-Tech drives and expect nothing less with this one. One thing to note, this drive has a slight tacky feel. At first, this bothered me; however, I think it is a safety mechanism to help prevent the drive from slipping out of your hand. I plan to purchase a few more in the near future.

So far Ive purchased four of these 4TB drives for mobile backups, and have not been disappointed. A couple of similar Seagate drives failed on me, so I started looking for other options. The LaCie drives are overpriced in my opinion, and Glyph does not sell a 4TB USB-powered portable drive. I was reassured to learn G-Tech is backed by the Western Digital name and quality. Ive been using internal WD drives with no issues for years. Ill be buying more of these G-Tech mobile drives for sure.

I purchased the 1TB G-Drive portable 7200 RPM hard drive to create more space on my laptop’s hard disk. I moved iTunes there and eventually will move my Photos application there too. It’s so easy to set up, all I had to do was connect it. No need to configure it or install software on my laptop. It’s small, lightweight, and attractive. Hardly makes any noise and is easy to store out of the way when not in use. Also, my cat likes to sleep on it for some reason, even when it’s not plugged in and warm. Mystery.

I have used G-Technology external drives for years. I swapped out an older drive for this G-Technology G-Drive mobile USB-C drive for use as an Apple Mac Time Machine backup drive. I have this connected to the Apple Thunderbolt Display using the G-Technology provided cables. The drive is quiet. Even though I have it setting within feet, I do not hear the drive working and even check the most recent backup time to make sure. The drive is cool to the touch even though it is backing up my information regularly. Ive not had any problems with the drive and do not expect to experience any complications. The drive has been backing up my information for over two weeks now and I expect the drive to continue working for years to come. I strongly recommend this product and G-Technology products in general.

This is the second G-Technology external HD I buy, this time for a friend who needed to set-up Time Machine for a Mac (she has another one). I’m really satisfied with this drive; it’s incredibly compact and quiet. Just plug and play right away! It comes with two USB 3.1 cable options to choose from (C to C and C to A). Although there’s no need to install any drivers or software, you will have to remove a Windows-related file to have the drive completely free for all your Mac stuff.

This is a great drive, I transferred 200 GB of photos to this drive in 15 mins. I was impressed with the speed. I’m using a Macbook Pro and I have had no issues with this drive. It is a perfect size to carry around, lightweight, and great price.
