I have not had an issue with this unit. I only store items with it so far. I will use it to work on my audio productions soon. I will see how fast it performs at that point.

Too slow.

This is my go to hard drive. Only issue I’ve had is that the cable doesn’t fit securely to my laptop and sometimes ejects if the cable moves too much. This isn’t a problem if I’m working at a desk but if I’m working from my laptop on the go, the cable disconnecting could potentially cause problems. It may be an issue with my laptop though.

This is the first LaCie drive I’ve purchased, I love that it is rugged like I had famously seen before I only give it 3 stars because I’ve already had it disconnect from my laptop mid-edit, and so I don’t see a better performance than from my cheaper External Drives With this being said, I will probably continue to buy drives from LaCie because it’s a pain looking for a better one

I love LaCie drives and the drive itself is great. Fast and easy to use. My only issue is the USB cord. As with some prior drives, the connection is not as tight as I would like. I’m not getting that flicker connection effect as I’ve had in the past, but it’s bothering me.

I should have listened to the other reviews. This drive is utter garbage. I just received it yesterday from B&H and immediately upon plugging it in, I started experiencing disconnect issues. I did nothing except plug it in and go to get some other drives to move data off of. So I figure it could be a format thing, I’ll just format it to MacOS like my other drives and my computer will stop losing connections with it, right? Wrong! Even after formatting the drive I still experienced disconnects. Not just one or two. But if I left this drive plugged in, it would essentially just cycle off and on and i’d get warnings on my computer saying that the drive was disconnected. So, maybe it’s just a cable issue. I was using the brand new cable that came with the drive in the box – which presumably would be a working, quality cable. But in the interest of eliminating all possible variables, I decided to try another usb-c cable, also brand new (from another drive which works great). Same issue! So, in summary: This drive constantly disconnects. It’s unreliable, defective, garbage. I would never trust my data on this drive. Lucky for me, I discovered this before ever moving one byte of data onto the drive! Immediately contact B&H support and sent it back for a refund. Take it from me, don’t buy this drive. Clearly LaCie thinks they can just ride on their reputation and not deliver a quality working product. AVOID.

I’ve always been fond of LaCie hard drives in the past and my older model is doing well. Unfortunately this hard drive that I recently purchased does not do well with my new mac book. It self-ejects itself from my Macbook whenever my screen is idol for more than 15min, even when I have an adobe project open linked to it. Often disconnecting all the footage and leaving me without an option to save. I updated the external drive per LaCie’s suggestion but no luck as of now. Not at all a reflection on B&H, just a software hiccup that’s unfortunate.

I really wish I could like this product as all of my fellow photog friends do, however within the month I purchased it, it corrupted and I lost about 5 years worth of work on it. Thankfully I had a backup elsewhere but the drive was deemed unreadable and I had to throw it away. Switched to buffalo since then.

Had to re-format the disc because Macbook Pro (2019) wouldn’t write to it out of the box. Once I did that it backed up my machine fine. Pros: rugged and light Cons: Mac users will need to re-format the thing using Disk Utility to use it.

After losing data on a similar storage device because of a very slight accidental drop on the floor, I decided to try the LaCie “rugged” external hard drive. It really lives up to its advertised benefits. This is truly rugged. It has been dropped on the rocks on several outings and still works just as it did right out of the box. I’m a believer. No more lost data for me.

great product! I’ve felt more comfortable traveling with this hard drive than any I’ve owned. Great storage, and since it’s still hard drive technology the price isn’t too bad. Only thing I wish is that the transfer speeds were snappier and that it were an SSD, so in the future I’ll probably look at the SSD options.
