The DCH481B 60V Max Brushless 1-9/16 in. SDS Max Combination Hammer is a light weight high-performance hammer that is powered by a DEWALT brushless motor and durable German engineered mechanism. The DCH481 delivers 6.1 joules of impact energy for fast drilling, even in the hardest concrete. The light weight design makes it ideally suited for horizontal serial drilling for #4 – #8 rebar, dry coring and chipping in any mid to upper wall and ceiling application.

I got this hammer drill because I’m on jobsites with no power all the time, I was worried about performance when coring larger diameter holes, but it cored me a 6in hole in 12 inches of brick and cinder blocks, that were filled solid, better than my corded drill, and with the 60v power I still drilled 50 or 60 drop in anchors with one battery. I love this drill, really made one of my most dreaded tasks into one of the easiest!

Purchased this last summer for a Old Brick Mansion renovation. Have used it for everything. Anchor bolt holes, chipping concrete and brick to small core bits for plumbing , electrical holes and removing tile and mortar beds. Has handled all Ive thrown at it. Love not have to drag cords around and has been a geniune time saver. It doesn’t replace a demo hammer but it was surprisenly strong for only 6.1 joules. Will probably purchase the 2″ Combo next, now that I know that the battery power will perform.Pros- are it is cordless, saves time on set up, has the power for small to medium jobs. Versitale drill.Cons-No reverseOverall I would buy again for an everyday combo hammer drill and I do recommend for any pros.

I purchased this hammer drill and three 6 Ah batteries over a year ago. I have a 20 acre property in west Texas with lots of sandstone rocks, boulders, and a clay-sand hardpan about 2 inches under the ground surface. I primarily use this tool to break up large rocks in areas I want to cultivate, and to drill holes for fenceposts and for bamboo poles I use to provide warning of big rocks in fields that I don’t want to run over with a plow or mower. I have successfully used 1.5″ x 36″ and smaller hammer drill bits, 1″ wide flat chisels, a 3.5″ asphalt cutter, and a 4.5″ clay spade with this tool. The tool has the power to drill in sandstone, but that power drains batteries pretty fast. One 6 Ah battery gives about 10 minutes drilling or hammer-chiseling time in rock, enough to bust a few rocks or drill about ten 8″ deep holes in rock. Because I don’t have a portable generator to power a corded tool of similar capability, I chose the cordless version. If you have the patience to do a little work at a time and then recharge batteries, this tool works. If you need to operate continuously for more than a half-hour a day, you would be better off investing in a generator and a corded tool.

The other day I needed to tunnel through a gravel infused dirt. I put a small spade bit in the Hammerdrill chipping hammer and made two tunnels under two footings on one charged battery. I got me one of these bad boys back when they first came and these things are a beast for a cordless tool. I am a contractor so I’m constantly using this thing. It drills holes like a charm and it also helped me bust a large chunk of concrete out of a basement wall when I was putting in a new casement window one time. I am totally happy with it. Something I will say thought dont expect too much out of it as you have to remember this is a cordless tool and you jus can’t pack the punch that some corded tools can. If you’re planning on using core bits I would advise to get the one that’s the next size bigger or a big corded one.
