I meant to say it has variable torque AND speed. The settings on the base are for torque. The speed varies with the trigger.

The DCF 887 is the way to go! Do not buy the DCF 886. The 887 has a variable speed which makes it usable for driving screws. The first setting on the 887 actually has a screw pic! Without the variable speed one tends to strip out screws (it is an impact, not a drill).
