I have a very small yard (back yard 15×50, front yard about twice that size), with 3 year old mostly St. Augustine grass in S. Louisiana. My first mow, a few weeds were coming up, and the grass was about a week and a half long after a few rains. the Sun Joe struggled to get through the grass in the thick parts, and I had to take the rows 1/2 swath at a time, and at times pull the mower backward to keep going. The grass chute also got clogged (I haven’t used the grass catcher yet, it’s pretty small). After that week, things were much better. As long as we mow every week, the Sun Joe makes short, easy work of the lawn. My wife loves the mower because she doesn’t have to mess with gasoline, pull starting, etc. and the mower is almost toy-like size, so it’s very easy to push. It takes my wife about 1/2 hour to mow our yard. We’ve mowed about 5 times now. Please note that the manual instructs the user to remove the battery from the charger immediately after charging complete (light on charger turns from green to red) to prevent overcharging. I have several lithium battery tools, and have never seen this warning, nor noticed any problems with leaving batteries in the charger. I e-mailed the company to ask if the manual was accurate, and got a reply about an hour later (!) saying yes, it was. They said they would put my comments in as a feature request for upcoming models (to be able to leave the battery in the charger). I bought a countdown timer so I can shut off the charger.

I really love this little thing, and it outperformed my expectations. It doesn’t like super-tall grass, and gets clogged with damp grass; I expected that, though. It is so quiet and easy to push. It does great on my uneven first-year lawn. If you don’t have horrible mowing conditions, I would highly recommend. Battery won’t last for a bigger yard, though.
