Excellent set of chisels. And finally figured out what will take the protective coating off so I don’t gum up my stones. Denatured Alcohol. Don’t even have to soak ’em. Just rub with wet rag and you can see it wiping away.

I have wanted to purchase the 8 pc. SweetHeart™ 750 Series Socket Chisel Set for a number of years and I finally purchased a set online. I was not disappointed. I have a few of the original 750 SweetHeart Chisels and these modern day chisels are both beautiful to hold but perform as expected and are sharp out of the box. I know need to learn how to sharpen them properly. The hardwood handles and steel cutting surfaces are very well made and live up to expectations. I would highly recommend their purchase.

If you read woodworking sites many people recommend the Stanley 750 series of chisels and there are many reasons why. They feel good in the hand, from the wood against your fingers or palm being more comfortable than the hard cold of plastic to the balanced weight when you’re working your project. When the handle wears it can be replaced easily, this also lets you get a custom handle if you want a different length or feel.Whether you buy a set new or find a well loved set of used chisels you won’t go wrong with the 750’s.

Haven’t used yet but appear to be high quality including the leather roll they came with. I expect many years of use of these chisels and would definitely buy again if I had to. You won’t be disappointed. They appear to be quite sharp out of the box but I will micro bevel as I do all my chisels.

There are several things customers should know about these chisels. The first thing is that the handles are intended to come off. Traditionally, socket chisels were sold without handles at all and you either bought them separately, or you made your own, and replaced them as they wore out. The Boxwood handles on these are nicely turned and laser engraved with the Stanley Sweetheart logo. They do come off, but with a bit of sanding and tuning you can make them seize up nicely if that is your preference.They are wooden handled chisels, so you really need to buy or make a mallet, not beat on them with your claw hammer. The internet abounds with plans and patterns for mallets that are easily made in the home shop, and Home Depot now stocks a variety of S4S hardwoods appropriate for making a nice mallet…I’d suggest maple. So if you have reached a state of skill as a woodworker where you are contemplating buying these chisels, you are probably ready to make yourself a good mallet too.These are made to be used in the shop, not out on the jobsite. If you just need chisels to bang around in your nail bags and chop out reliefs in framing, there are cheap chisels much better suited to that task. These are intended for more artisan woodworking, cleaning up dovetails, mortises and tenons.They shine as paring chisels, meaning you hold them in your hand and use them to shave off thin slices. You don’t necessarily need to beat on them with a mallet, and the socket head handle is nice for this. You can accomplish a lot using these like a knife, with an occasional rap from your fist if a bit more force is needed.All high quality chisels need to be honed before use, and while these are surprisingly sharp out of the box, they are no exception. The edges and faces all contain mill marks from the grinding process and you will want to flatten the back and hone the bevel. I started with the largest chisel in the set and used a coarse diamond stone, then worked down to medium, fine and extra fine, which is equivalent to about 1200 grit. Then I worked them on my 6000 grit water stone to get a mirror shine on the back and the bevel. They come ground to 25 degrees. I went to 30 degrees for the finished bevel. Took me about ten minutes of work to get the 1-1/4 “fettled” to where I wanted. The smaller ones are going faster, but it will be a few more days before they are all ready for work. Be careful with the smallest so you don’t rock them on the stone and end up with a convex back.I tested out the 1/4, 3/4 and 1-1/4 cleaning up mortises and tenons and they are nice to use. I also have a couple of this same pattern in the motley set of chisels I inherited from my grandfather. Obviously I can tell the old chisels from the new ones, but these are comparable in quality to the Stanley Sweethearts he bought in the 1930s.For amateur woodworkers or small shop professionals who want a good set of chisels but are not ready to drop a grand for a set of Japanese chisels or Lie Nielsens, these are a good value. The price of the individual chisels is jumping around a bit, but buying the set gives you about a $75 discount compared to buying them individually…plus the set comes with a nice leather tool roll.Each chisel is individually bagged in plastic and coated with an oily anti-rust compound. Small plastic keepers to protect the edges are also included. The blades are purported to be of Sheffield steel, forged in the UK, and the boxwood for the handles grows natively in the UK as well.

Satisfied with quality and design. Very disappointed in time that it will take to set them up. I am using 220 and 320 grit to flatten them. The bottom 1/2 to 3/4 inch of the back is flat. From there on up they are concave to the shaft. I bought them on sale which helps.

Bought these to replace heavy Marple with plastic handles with poor balance . First off these look impressive at first glance. So upon getting out chisels to do preliminary clean , flatten back, on glass and emery paper to 600 grit before doing final on diamond plates. Started with 1/14″ working down. Was going great, backs polished pretty quick and then got to 1/8″ chisel and it is bent so bad I”m doubting it’s usability. it is so bent at bottom of socket (sideways), that makes me question if Stanley even has any quality control at all. So now I looking at them far more closely and measuring widths. Most were within 015 thousands of stated size in imperial measurement. However the1/2 inch is an 12 mm.and shy of 500 thou. by 29 thousands of an inch. All were off a bit, some are not too bad, maybe 015. These are supposed to be Stanley premium chisels, can’t agree. I have Old Stanley handyman carpenter chisels that are within two thou. Reason for buying was , I wanted better quality, full set “imperial” chisels with good feel. The feel and balance is excellent, so they met that criteria. They sharpened easily, but no ideal on life of edge. Too bad They missed the mark on these. The standard complaints about grind marks on sides and top are not an issue to me they can clean up easy enough to be good. And one other thing whats with the box showing the 3/4 being 18 mm, every one past 8th grade knows 19mm is the equivalent to 3/4″ (was most true size,.744), that even got by them, amazing. See photos. Really wanted to like em, but I don’t know what to do with them now.

After a previous three star review with pictures describing 1/8 inch chisel bent and half inch off by 30 thousands, I called Stanley warranty and they made good on these chisel and and sent very good replacements. within 13 days. These chisels have great fell in hand and seem to hold an edge very well.

Pleasantly surprised by the quality of machining and fine finish, especially after reading some reviews. They compare favorably with the original 750’s; a little thinner and lighter, but still very usable. The only ding is the two larger chisels had minor handling damage to the cutting edge which easily honed out. They arrived well protected in individual plastic bags and tip protectors, and almost too pretty to use. They have not yet seen hard use, so cannot rate edge retention. Again, these chisels seem to be a good value, and very fit for my use.
