I purchased this router primarily because I am firmly in the Ridgid 18V ecosystem, and was initially really impressed with it (like I have been with my drills, circular saw, jig saw, etc.). But after a bit of use, I noticed some vertical slop (probably a millimeter or so) in the shaft, which made the fine adjustment unreliable, and no obvious way to fix it myself. I’ll be returning this one for a replacement and hoping that I just had a bit of bad luck. I am recommending it because of the experience I had before the shaft loosened, and expectation that the replacement will provide better results. If I had one gripe, it would be that the on/off switch is a little difficult to turn “on”, but perhaps that’s the intended design to avoid accidental engagement and potential injury.

I bought the router to rout hinge mortises in a bunch of doors for a neighbor. I kind of wanted one anyway because of a review I read in Fine Woodworking. I am very please with the decision. Its portability and light weight are perfect for the job. The review I read had a minor issue with the weight of the unit with battery, but I coupled it with a 4AH battery and see no problem at all.

Nice adjustability, plenty of power for trimming, easy to handle, good visibility (for a trim router), LED light is a nice touch. Power switch would be better as a rocker switch. A dust port option would be really helpful too. Also Ridgid is denying the LSA after I exchanged a defective one.
