Slickrock Metallic Pearl 260 from Moab contains 25 sheets of 16.54 x 23.39″ 260 g/m2 paper with a metallic finish which provides a unique lifelike, almost 3D quality to any image. The paper is suited for both black and white as well as color prints. The paper is recommended for use with pigment-based ink but can also be used with dye-based ink as well.

I like this paper as an alternative to the more traditional glossy papers. Although this is a metallic paper, it’s not over the top as may be the case for other metallic paper types. However, you should still experiment with this paper since it may not be appropriate for certain types of photographs. This is a resin coated paper, so it doesn’t have the weight or feel of heavier cotton-based papers.

There are dozens upon dozens of papers out there and the majority of professional quality papers perform as they are expected to perform. What differentiates papers is feel, look, base color, surface characteristics, etc. Ultimately, when choosing from among professional quality papers, whether you like something or not comes down to a matter of personal taste. I use metallic papers for certain Black & White images. I have never printed color on a metallic paper. I’ve used metallic papers by Red River, Ilford, Hahnemuhle, and now Moab. Moab is a bit less glossier than the Ilford and Red River, so I would call it a soft gloss. I’ve done about 10 prints thus far (pigment HP B9180). They produce rich blacks and extremely crisp–quasi-metallic–whites, which is why one chooses such a paper. Basically, this one is up there with the best of them.

I am a landscape photographer so I bought it for face mounting photos to plexiglass. I do have to say that it only looks good with certain photos…..not all photos look good on the metallic paper…….all in all….I think it looks great. The ICC profile provided was not as good as the settings for glossy paper profile……I give my images a higher concentration of contrast and use the gloss paper profile for printing……..looks fantastic.

I used this paper for my current exhibit of B & W 13×19 prints. It is very well suited due to its sheen. Although not for pigment inks, it is a worthwhile product for reasonable longevity and its appearance can be striking depending on subject matter. Highly recommended to at least try!!

I’m using an Epson 7890 and the ink set really shines on this paper. I have prints that are on Kodak Endura and comparing them side by side I can say I’ve found my Endura alternative. Slickrock is deffinately gallery quality paper and images pop brilliantly!

I love this paper. I now use it exclusively with all my small fine art photography prints. The only reason for the 4-star review is there is always 1-2 pieces that have very minor flaws that cause me to toss that sheet and reprint. With, I do give the paper the benefit of the doubt as it could be a flaw in the printer printing process. Regardless, overall the quality is exactly what I am look for in a fine art print. Detail, exceptional tonal contrast, and makes the image come to life. Highly recommend if these are the qualities you look for.

I love this paper – which I sometimes use for a slightly non-realistic sheen in certain fine art landscapes. It cannot be thought of as a white paper. It is metallic and therefore generates a very slight grey. If that effect comes from a conscious choice, it can be enhancing, adding a gorgeous pop to an image. However, if not, the results can seem unexpected, weird, or just wrong!

I was able to print a series of bold and bright images on this paper for a pop-up exhibition called ARTernate and could not be happier with the results. The public loved its luminosity and I was very impressed with its high quality pearlescent finish. Definitely a great addition to my growing repertoire!

Slickrock is an interesting paper. What kind of image works well on Slickrock? Images with shiny metals – Gold, Silver, Chrome. This paper will render them like no other paper. Images with colors that are normally out of gamut. For example, Reds and Oranges. To a lesser extent, virbrant images. In addition to having a metalic base, this paper is very glossy and has a color gamut that is just unreal. Check out the attached image comparing the color gamut of slickrock (gray) with the color gamut of Epson Exhibition Fiber. It’s not for everyone, but there are going to be certain images where using this paper makes an incredible difference. You’d be doing a disservice to yourself by not buying a box and giving it a try.

This is a great paper, an amazing pearl texture that have a hint of metallic and great white, it looks very good under any light condition, but the better the light, the better the metallic effect

I like all Moab papers and this one is great as well- My personal taste for glossy papers is I don’t like when you look at the print from an angle and the print looks muddy in the darks and whites- which happens with this paper.

If you are looking for something different to spice up an image, this paper is definitely worth a try — certainly worth a package of 25 to experiment with so you know what types of images you may want to use it with. Unlike the Slickrock Metallic Silver, which has a blue cast, this Pearl paper is clean white. Be sure to download the icc profiles.
