These are an exact replacement for original cutting dies on the Milwaukee Brushless threaded rod cutter. They are very durable and look like new after cutting many rods other than a little surface discoloration. Still, I wanted to have them on hand when the time came to replace them so that I wouldn’t have to wait. Replacement is simple. Just remove two bolts with the allen wrench that is stored on the tool. There is a single dot in the die for the moving jaw and a two dots for the die in the fixed jaw. However, if you replace one at a time and pay attention to how the lettering is faced up, you almost can’t mess it up. Typical high quality Milwaukee tool. These cut threaded rod in 1/4-20, 3/8-16, and 1/2-13. Those are the most common sizes. There are two sets of 3/8 cutters on each die since that’s most commonly used. Great replacement part for an innovative tool. Nut ready cuts so you don’t have to shoot sparks with a grinder and then polish the ends to be able to get a nut on.

I love how easy it is with the Milwaukee threaded rod cutter to cut rods. The cutting dies are strong and of good quality, but nothing lasts forever if you use it regularly. So, this 1/4 IN./3/8 IN./1/2 IN. REPLACEMENT THREADED ROD CUTTING DIE SET is due at some point. The replacement is fairly easy and straight forward. Replacing the old dies with new Milwaukee dies essentially gives you a new rod cutter, at least it works like new.

These dies in the Milwaukee cordless Threaded Die Cutter tool will protect the threads of the rod or bolt you are cutting to leave a clean edge to immediately thread nuts onto without having to dress the bolt end. It is much cleaner than using a saw or other cutter which will leave burrs on the end. The dies will cut even thin sections off the rod that are thinner than a single turn of the threads. The come with two cutting surfaces for 3/8 inch rods. Installing them in the cutting tool requires using a hex wrench to remove a retaining bolt for each die and installing them in the correct orientation. See the instructions that come with the tread cutting tool as the die package does not include instructions. Do not change the cutting dies with a battery installed in the tool as this is a pinch hazard.

For some reason I thought these were for threading rods these are for cutting threaded rod 1/4″ thru 3/8″ or what would be called all-thread rod. Each insert has a 1/4″ NC threaded hole in the center. The cutters come in a nice blister pack and they are very cleanly made and can also be used for cleaning up threaded rods after being cut with a hack saw. Overall these are nicely made and are made out of a very hard steel.

I got this replacement die set as I purchased the M18 threaded rod cutter as well. As a new tool, I am not sure how long the life span of the cutting dies will last so I got a replacement set of dies just in case. After testing the tool cutting 3/8″ mild steel threaded rod and inspected the dies, I did not see any wear after half a dozen cuts, nor did I notice any difference in time it took to cut the rod. Milwaukee doesn’t state how many cuts a die will make, but I am guessing if the tool is taken care of and if the dies are not allowed to heat up from multiple cuts in a row, they will last for several hundred cuts or more. That is my assumption though.

The Milwaukee Threaded rod die cutter is a great tool… Having a spare set of cutters makes it even better, I cut a lot of 1/2 inch threaded rod (60-80 pieces) and the tool was starting to not work well and slow down. Jut remove the allen screws and pop in the new die, and it cuts just like brand new again. Well worth the money and helps you get a lot more mileage out of a great tool.

This product is designed to be used with the Milwaukee Threaded Rod Cutter 2872-21. It includes a top and bottom die for the cutter which supports 1/4 inch, 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch course thread rods. The dies are marked with a single dot for the bottom die and a double dot for the top die. These went into the threaded rod cutter easily and were an exact match to the set that was being replaced. They performed exactly as expected. The dies support the following materials:Mild Steel:1/4″-203/8”-161/2″-13M6x1M8x1.25M10x1.5M12x1.75Stainless Steel:1/4″-203/8”-16M6x1M8x1.25M10x1.5

The 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″ REPLACEMENT CUTTING DIE SET is a perfect fit on the Milwaukee M18 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Brushless Threaded Rod Cutter. The grooves line up to the threads of all thread as they should. The set of cutting dies that came with my rod cutter have held up well. I wanted this replacement set as a back-up in case I chip the one on my thread cutter. If one of the cutting dies do happen to chip it will cause a burr in the threads making it difficult to install nuts.

I used this to cut some 1/4″-20 course threadrods. I needed the rods cut for some camera mounts that I am building. Prior to having this, my plan was to a recip saw or a hacksaw. This cut the rod CLEANLY in about 2 seconds. There were no burrs to clean up or tend to. I found that laying the rod cutter down and operating it that way works best due to the heavy weight of the tool. Changing the cutting die was quick and easy, you have to use an allen wrench to remove the screw

Replacement die set for the excellent threaded rod cutter. Very impressed with this tool. I like the portability of it to use at practicably any location under various configurations. A great use was for hanging trapeze supports for conduit and pipe supports. Easily set the elevation with the threaded rod and cut as required. No burrs, no wasted time – very professional job. Additionally this can be operated on a bench for multiple cuts and fabricating threaded rod for specific purposes and lengths. Great tool!
