This jig will do the job but there are traps. Be careful how you index the jig for proper hole alignment. Too much clamping pressure on soft woods can cause a round indentation.It can slip around while clamping so be aware of this.

Love the tool. 4 stars instead of 5 for inconvenience. The description of the 5MM shelf pin Jig says that the 5mm drill bit is included. So I place a BOPUS (buy online pick up in store) order for the jig and two boxes of 5mm shelf pins. I live about 30 minutes from the HD store. My wife was in town that day so I asked her to go by and pick it up. I get it out of the box to use it and it only has a 1/4 inch bit, which it says right on the front. It doesn’t say 5mm Shelf Pin Jig on the box, just Shelf Pin Jig. The instructions say, also works with 5mm bit (sold separately). One star deduction cause I gotta drive 30 minutes each way to exchange my 5mm pins for 1/4″.
