The Johnson 40-6705 Laser Detector is designed to work with any manufacturers red beam rotary laser. The detector allows a red beam rotary laser to be used outdoors or in high ambient light conditions or whenever the human eye cannot see the laser beam. This detector senses the broken pulsating light emitted from the rotary laser and quickly and accurately locates the laser signal being emitted from red beam rotary lasers even when the beams are invisible to the human eye. The detector easily attaches to grade rods with the included grade rod mounting bracket. This detector is designed for use indoors and outdoors. Laser detectors greatly expand the working range of any red beam rotary laser. Includes: 2 “AAA” alkaline batteries, clamp and instruction manual.

Overall a good laser detector. I used it on a very sunny day up to 60ft distances in full sunlight and had no problems picking up the laser level beam. My only problem is that there is no silence for the beeping. It is probably as loud as smoke detector, so my neighbors must have been cursing me with all of the beeping going on when I took elevation marks for surveying my back yard. Ended up duct taping the speaking holes to dampen the noise. With the lights, I didn’t really need the beeping. Would have been nice to turn it off.
