Good power, quality but too heavy for me

I already had the 58 volt Echo weed eater and decided to add this to my collection. Worked really well at trimming shrubbery and some small tree limbs. I do wish it had a mode to keep the blades engaged without having to keep the handle pressed in. But I imagine that would be a safety concern. I did tie a string around mine while using to keep it engaged.

Way too heavy. Otherwise does a good job.

Easy operation, not too heavy for lifting, quiet smooth operation and NO GAS!!!No plug or cord,No tune up, plug and play! Love that the battery interchanges with the lawn mower and other tools in the series.

Used it to trim my oriental grasses down before Spring. They are pretty heavy stalks and it cut through it easier than my electric corded trimmer.

I am a seasoned land care type person, I have and use, chainsaws, weed whackers, hedge trimmers, lawn mowers and diesel tractors small to large, so I know tools pretty well, also fix and maintain them all. A couple of observations after the first use of my Echo 58V electric hedge trimmer, by the way I also have the gas version. The electric I thought would be lighter, it is the same as the gas version with the battery installed. I think big brother has made Echo add one too many safety interlocks, two. The gas version in both the trimmer and the Echo weed whacker which I bought first, has a slower than expected RPM pickup delay, the gas actually seems to hit working RPM faster, this surprised me. I share one battery and charger between both tools. Both tools have excellent life from the battery. I am finally charging the battery after the initial charge from the beginning of the season. When I used the battery on the new hedge trimmer for the first time today, it had half a charge remaining, when done, probably a good thirty minutes later it had one quarter charge remaining. I trimmed two five foot wide flat top ever greens and six rounded by me box woods. The whacker is also used on my 1.01 acre lot with walls, lamp posts, foundations and tree’s, I whack usually every other week. The battery lasts forever. It is a pleasure not having fumes in my lungs, nose, cloths and in the air, and the quietness is a real pleasure, no ear protection required. Plus no spilling of two stroke fuel and fiddling around with plugs, carburetors, primers and pull cords. Both tools performs very well, it is just the RPM delay I am not use to, perhaps if I hadn’t used the gas versions, I would not find the delay unnerving, but I was raised on gas. I do have another smaller 20V weed whacker by another mfg’r and it does not have the delay, though it is constructed a lot different and a lot lighter duty. I must also add I have the chain saw attachment and shaft extender for the whacker, and I was shocked by the reach and ability to cut through six inch oak branches a good 15 to 18 ft off the ground. I was very pleased with this attachment, though with the extender, it is a handful to operate, I am sure the gas version would be the same. Electric is quite convenient, I do like it a lot and am glad I have switched!

Very easy to use and not terribly heavy. Cut through some good size branches.

Tool cuts well, but is slow compared to my craftsman gas powered trimmer that got a broken blade and is not available.I have a hedge that runs the perimeter of my property, and it takes twice as long as my gas powered tool. It is also heavy, and if you relax your grip on either the front or rear handles, the power cuts out. I must say I don’t miss the exhaust fumes.

I REALLY wanted this to work out. I’m a big fan of Echo two stroke power equipment and thought the new cordless tools would be the thing. The reviews of the tool were very favorable. I bought this hedge trimmer and took it home. I was impressed with the way the tool looked, the thickness of the blades, the ability to add grease to the gear box, and was already chomping at the bit to add the chainsaw and gain another battery at an higher amp-hour rating. This would also lead to the purchase of the mower for trimming if/when I purchase a riding mower. I was all giggly inside. All of this came to a crushing blow as I unpacked the battery to place into the charger. Usually lithium ion batteries come out of the packaging with at least some charge. I pressed the button on the new battery and nothing. Uh-oh moment that was confirmed when I placed the battery into the charger and instantly the defective indicator on the charger was on. Removed and re-inserted several times, unplug/ re-plug charger but no go. I knew Home Depot would swap/refund so I wasn’t worried about that part. I just wanted Echo to be the cordless line I went with. After packing everything back into the box for the return trip to store, I went online and read the reviews for the battery packs and chargers. Not so good reviews to which mine will be added and I would recommend you do the same before purchasing any of the Echo cordless tools. A cordless tool line cannot be any better than the power packs used to power them. I wasn’t the only one to experience DOA battery and given some of the reviews, the ones who experienced DOA are the lucky ones. No problem with return. Someone even complained about the customer service for Echo when they needed help with a battery or charger that went caput too late to return to the store. You can get that treatment from the lime green tool line and this made my decision to go with another brand and it wasn’t easy. I swapped for an EGO with it’s good reviews and high rating but initial comparison of straight out of box assessment makes me miss the Echo even more. But then again, the new battery lit up when I pressed the button fresh out of the box and most importantly, charged when placed into the charger. Maybe in the future, by the time the EGO bites the dust, Echo will have everything corrected.

The first issue is that only two home depots in a 100 mile search radius of me carries this product… Burbank (35 miles), and Yucca Valley (105 miles). The second issue is the battery came DOA. Home Depot did not want to help with a battery swap and i got the run around.Echo was willing to help and replaced the battery within two weeks. Everything works as expected with a new battery.

So far great product, I purchased all of echo 58v products, satisfied, yes although my weed eater started making a lot of noise while operating. It is kinda heavy.

Okay – this is my 3rd Echo 58V tool, I got the blower and then the string trimmer….and now this! I just used it for the first time and I am impressed. I find it reciprocates slower than my old electric hedge trimmers but this is actually a good thing. Slow and powerful gives me a cleaner cut with out a lot of smaller fragments that I have to clean out of the garden beds. I also feel I have a lot more control over this unit over my old electric unit. I do have both 2AH and a 4AH battery. I like using the 2AH battery because it is lighter — I did my entire yard with the 2AH so capacity was not a problem. Thanks Echo – you got a winner on this one! I’m thinking maybe a 58V chainsaw next?!!!!
