When you need to hold onto something large. I have several tanks at work with bulkhead fittings that have a 4″ nut to secure them. Few tools are available that will grab things that large so I have relied on these for years when the gaskets need to be changed to prevent leaks. After my truck was broken into and my others were taken I had to replace these knowing the seals were due for a change. I can rely on these to get the job done making one less thing for me to worry about. Additionally the groove in the jaws gives you a firm grip on the corners of large nuts when you really need to crank on something.

I can do things with these plier. They are quite big. If you want pliers that have a five inch opening. to grip with and do work with then these are what you want to buy. These have insulated handles and are useful for larger-sized applications. Most pliers are plier-sized; these are the big boys you need to get into and out of a job. Considering that pliers extend and increase the strength of your hand’s grip, this is why these pliers allow you to get work done. The jaws themselves are actually slim but the versatility of 10 jaw positions make these pliers a must-have. Sure, you will not pull them out for everyday use but when you need them, you have them. What a pleasure it is knowing I have this kind of backup im my toolbox. I would buy these again in a heartbeat.

Great Pliers for large round work with a jaw design that gives you excellent holding power. The Crescent 16-inch tongue and groove “V” jaw pliers, model RTZ216V, are part of the Crescent Z2 line of tools. The pliers are 16 inches long when closed, have approx. 2 ½ inch length of jaw of the aggressive “K9” type configuration. The jaws have been induction hardened and are 9/16-inch-wide with 3/32” deep pockets on each side in the main grip area to allow for the advertised superior holding ability on angled work. The handles have been dipped for ergonomics and ease of cleaning only and are “NOT” electrical insulated and do NOT have an ASTM-F1505 rating. The pliers have 10 jaw positions and can hold onto items as large as 4 1/8 inch in dia., weighs in at a little over 3 lbs. and all non-blacked surfaces have been coated to help prevent corrosion. In testing the holding strength, I found that because of the “V” jaws anything smaller than 1 inch in dia. was just not going to happen (see photo). This pliers needs to be used on big round product for it to come into its own, it did not do well on the smaller items. There is a small “V” in the front of the jaws that can grip onto a 10d nail but nothing smaller. I tested putting the jaws at an angle to the work with only using one hand and was very impressed with the gripping power. When these K9 jaws are properly placed onto the work they hold on just like advertised, really impressed. Product is manufactured in Vietnam and finished in China. I found nothing dissatisfying about these pliers. They are well built, well designed and are of excellent quality. The jaw type is somewhat specific to the type of work (round) but not entirely and can be used in other applications if proper knowledge is applied. Recommended.

The Crescent 16″ “V” jaw pliers bite into round pipes very well, but also do a great job on large nuts like plumbing unions. The K9 jaws will bite onto and hold on a 35 degree angle, so those awkward times when you cant get a square bite into your pipe are gone. The tool is just over 3 lbs so its light enough to carry in your toolbox when needed but still hefty feeling to know it will get the job done and last a lifetime. The jaws have 10 different adjustments that go upto 4 ¼” capacity. The handles are dipped so feel nice but are smoothe so if they get wet may be a little slick. The dipped handle also has the number 16 on the end if the handle incase this tool is stored in a bucket, you can grab the right length if yiu have different sizes. Overall very happy with the quality and results this tool provides. I highly recommend this if you do plumbing jobs around the house ir just need a large pair of pliers.

BIG Pliers. I have several 10 or 12 inch slip joint pliers. But sometimes they just are not big enough. These are for those cases. I put them next to a steel ruler in their packaging so you get that perspective on size. I also put pictures of them next to a gear wrench plier that is not a small one. These are just much bigger. I can hold them in one hand but my hands are big. Sometimes these may need two hands. But when you need pliers to hold harder or bigger things, they are the right pliers. They have more leverage and the opening can be much bigger.

These Crescent Z2 16-1/2 inch tongue and groove V jaw pliers are loaded with features. The pliers open to a massive 4 -1/2 inches and have ten different positions. The jaws on these Crescent pliers have a unique feature; they will grip at a 35-degree angle; I have never seen this feature on other pliers. Overall, with the K9 jaw features and the comfortable handles, the powerful grip of these large pliers, they will come in handy for many jobs.

This review is for the Crescent 16-1/2 in. Z2 K9 V-Jaw Dipped Handle Tongue and Groove Pliers. I already have the Crescent 12 in. Z2 K9 V-Jaw Dipped Handle Tongue and Groove Pliers which are great for medium sized work, but if you are looking for pliers for larger, heavier work these 16-1/2 in pliers will fit the bill. Let me tell you these pliers are BIG. The jaws open to a spacious 4-1/4 inch parallel jaw position. These pliers have ten jaw positions that can handle a wide variety of objects. They are very well designed and of excellent quality. The coated handles are very comfortable to work with. The jaw type primarily works well with round work objects but because of the unique three faceted design they can work well in most other applications that are not round. These pliers are heavy and may require two hands when gripping. When you need pliers to handle harder or bigger things, these are the right pliers for the job. They have more leverage, and the jaw opening is capable of handling larger objects. Another fine product by Crescent.

Crescent 16-1/2 in. Z2 K9 V-Jaw Dipped Handle Tongue and Groove PliersThese pliers are great I have used them while working with iron pipe and schedule 40 pvc pipe they grip great. These are heavy duty so they are not a light weight pair of pliers. I have several different Crescent pliers and they have a different style of grip that I think is better than the grips on these pliers when your hands are either wet or greasy, they are more difficult to hold. These are a quality pair of pliers and I would recommend them.

The Crescent 16 1/2 inch Z2 K9 V-Jaw Dipped Handle Tongue and Groove Pliers give me the convenience of having two tools in one. These pliers have eliminated my pipe wrench and channel locks for most jobs. As a matter of fact, since I’ve had these Crescent V-Jaw tongue and groove pliers I haven’t touch my pipe wrench. One of the biggest hassles of the pipe wrench is the need to have both hands free when making adjustments. Combine working overhead and/or in tight quarters with the weight of a pipe wrench and you’ve got the recipe for injury and frustration. With the Crescent V-Jaw pliers I can adjust the jaws and control the bite one-handed at half the weight. Threading and unthreading pipe has become so much easier. The rubber grips are comfortable and easily wipe clean. They are well built and appear sturdy enough to be passed down for generations. I’m so impressed I am going to buy the little brother for the small jobs.
