The Calphalon knife set is a perfect addition to any kitchen. I have been using the set for a few days and it has performed great. I am impressed by how well the knives cut. I was trimming fat from a pork shoulder and all I had to do was slide the chef knife across and it cut right through. My husband used the bread knife and said that all he had to do was move through the bread and it cut the bread. The Santoku knife is great for dicing vegetables. The vegetables don’t get stuck to the side of the knife after you cut them. The steak knives are perfect size. The utility scissors come in handy for multiple uses. I like how the knives are one solid piece. There’s not a separate handle that can break. The self sharpening feature is an added bonus. The wood block is an attractive gray color that goes nicely in my kitchen. I think the only downfall is the counter space that the set takes up. The block does not stand as straight as my previous knife set. It leans out a little bit more and extends onto my counter space. That is the only thing I would change about the set. Overall it’s an impressive and attractive knife set and I would recommend it. Disclaimer – I received this knife set as a sample to review. The opinions are my own.

Overall I really like this knife set. I looks and performs great and I have just one complaint. Pros: -The color of the block and knives is perfect for a sleek kitchen look. -The knives are solid and full stainless construction so I’ll never have to worry about the blade loosening. -8 steak knives is a great amount for entertaining. -The other knives are a good variety for lots of different kitchen uses. -The scissors are really nice for normal kitchen activities and have lots of functionality. I like that it has an in block sharpener. -I haven’t had it that long to know how effective it is but I have high hopes. Cons: My only con is that after my second time putting the scissors away I missed the hole and the tip of the scissors chipped the block just below the scissors hole so now you see a chip of unfinished wood in the center of the grey finish. Every user of this product will hit the side of the hole at least several times in the lifetime of the product and for it to chip after the second time and the first 10 minutes of unboxing it is crazy. It now doesn’t look as sleek and looks old and worn out. It makes me sad to see that chip and a product at this price point just shouldn’t do that. Update: After using this knife set for 6 more weeks I can say that my opinion remains the same. Overall I really like this knife set. I’m still not certain the in block sharpening is effective but it can’t be a bad thing. And I’m still super annoyed that the block chipped so easily around the scissor hole.

This Calphalon knife set seems to be a great set. I like the stainless steel look-it coordinates with all the new kitchen appliances. The knives all work as intended and are very sharp. Since I just started using them, I am assuming they will stay sharp with the built in sharpeners in each slot. I wish they had some instructions in regard to the self sharpening slots. I am not so sure they will stay sharp just by rubbing against these sharpeners while taking in or out of block-or if you are supposed to put some pressure on them while removing and inserting knives.

The knives in this set are always sharp when you want to use them because there is a knife sharpener in the slots that the knives rest in. The knives are very sharp and have not dulled with constant use. The handles are very comfortable and made so that the joints are very tight. There are no gaps for food to get stuck. They are very easy to clean. The only thing I do not like is the location of the scissors in the knife block. It’s in an odd location and the scissors don’t fit well in it.

I’m very satisfied with the 15 piece knife set. I didn’t realize how bad my old knives were until I used these. Slicing bacon and chicken is so much easier now! The knives are good quality, the blades are sharp, and they wash up nicely. I especially like the self sharpening feature in the butcher block. I like that it comes with steak knives, the paring knife, and the bread knife. I use those the most. Plus the shears- those are very handy. The only thing I don’t like is how large the butcher block is- it takes up a fair amount of my counter space- and it scratches pretty easily. The area near the scissors is already scratched.

My favorite features of this set is that it has a built in knive sharpener and a spot for kitchen scissors. I also love that it includes a paring knife. The knives are well made and sturdy. For those that like a modern look, they’ll be happy with the look. My only wish is that the knife block was a little more upright because it takes up more counter space than my old one, but I imagine it needs to be at that angle for the sharpener.

The Calphalon knife set offers a good variety of quality, sharp knives, at a fairly reasonable cost. The pros are: the block and knives have a modern appearance, all the knives have practical uses, they’re sharp and continue to stay sharp with each use (due to the built-in slot sharpeners), they’re very well balanced and have a good grip when dry, and they’re one solid piece of forged metal, so will hopefully maintain their durability. There are some minor cons, as follows: the handles are hollow, so they sound kind of cheap and loud when you remove them from the block, the steak knife slots are pretty large, so the knives are loose in the slots, the built-in sharpeners create a horror-movie-like “schling” sound when you remove the knives (at least you know it’s sharpening them though), and the handles can get slightly slippery when wet since they’re all the same metal material. They don’t sound or feel like a high-end set, but they do perform well which is the most important feature. The self sharpening makes their care almost effortless. Overall, I think it’s a quality set of knives that should last a while. With just a few tweaks they could become premium quality.

I have been very impressed with this Calphalon knife set. We unpacked it and got using it to prep dinner and I was immediately wowed. The heft and balance of the blades has been perfect while the built-in sharpener means I dont have to fiddle with the stone any more. I was most surprisingly pleased by the steak knives. They had a serrated edge as well as a sharp edge and that combo sliced right through my pork chop dinner tonight. Very pleased!

A good high quality set. Easy to use. I used the for carving a turkey and was able to keep a good grip of the knife the whole time. I like the stainless steel appearance. It gives it even a higher quality appearance. Not all the knifes self sharpen. The steak knifes are serrated. I prefer non serrated steak knifes. I have used the set several times and have always been sharp and are easy to use.
