The performance is everything I expected and then some but you’ll need some beefy cooling since even with a 360mm rad I get around 41 idle and 70 under load

I upgraded from i7-4790k and it’s a big leap in performance. I’m someone that goes for the best available that is reasonably priced, in hopes it will stick around for at least 5 years. And this cpu looks promising to take the next throne. We’re talking about 12-core cpu so you better have a 360rad or at least a really great 240mm cooler ready for this, I will soon upgrade to an open-loop cooler because the 5900x just deserves everything.

This processor runs great as expected! No overclocking tests yet, aside from enabling Precision Boost Overdrive, and it is no contest to my old Intel build. I paired it with a Noctua NH-D15 which keeps it around 32c at idle. At full-load tests slamming all cores I never see it go above 72c on the hottest die. You will definitely need a good cooling solution to tame this beast on heavy workloads. Had the 5900x on back order for months, and was finally shipped to me once more stock arrived (certainly no fault of B&H). Given the current demand, they shipped it to me as soon as they could. I was one of the lucky few to get this backordered at MSRP. Thank you B&H for honoring the original backorder price! Especially in today’s climate and with scalpers going crazy.

The power to my punch for my RTX 3090 Founder’s. A super powerful CPU! Make sure to have GOOD cooling!

What an incredible CPU! I have been an PC enthusiast for 20 years and this is by far my favorite purchase to date. I edit photos and videos and this chip absolutely plows through 6K RAW Footage. I also game in the evenings and my frame rates have never been higher. Well done AMD on making such a great product.

Got this 5900X to replace my 3900X. Improvement in IPC and boost clock has been stellar in comparison to 3900X. With 3900x was barely able to reach advertised boost clock even changing multiple settings over and over again. With 5900X, no problem reaching over 5GHZ. Also noticed pretty decent improvement in gaming, especially older titles that rely on CPU under DX9. Simracing, especially older titles can really benefit from this processor

Of course, just like any other CPU review, this is just biased because I paid for this with my own money. Of course, I’m highly satisfied with my purchase, but you should always check independent reviews in either text or video form. It’ll give you an idea of what to expect in hard numbers. The people who tend to review products on retailer sites like this tend to be exceptional cases: those that have had very positive experiences, or very negative experiences. There’s little motivation to review a product you’re merely content with, unless you’re getting paid to do it. Not that it isn’t to be expected, but AMD’s new architecture, Zen3, puts it on par with Intel’s current 10th Gen offerings, and AMD knows it. With pricing above Intel’s for the first time in many, many years, AMD knows these CPUs are no slouch. With a turbo to almost 5 GHz on a single core, games run very fast, but you don’t lose out on productivity performance with 12 cores and 24 threads at your disposal. From my 1700X, my minimum frame rates in Cyberpunk 2077 lifted dramatically and frametimes improved, as the bottleneck on my 2080 Ti was reduced significantly. I play at 3440×1440 with everything cranked up, so the actual digit values weren’t that different, but it definitely felt quite a bit better, for what that is worth. If you have the money to spend, and the need (or desire, really) for 12c/24t, then this is the CPU to go for. The extra ~50% cost for the 5950X isn’t really worth it, in my opinion. I’d rather wait and go for a Zen3 Threadripper chip at that point, to get the extra PCIe lanes out of the HEDT platform. More expansion options, particularly in high speed M.2 storage. That said, it doesn’t exist without downsides. Compared to my 1700X, this runs significantly hotter, to nobody’s surprise. It has 50% more cores, and it runs at a much higher voltage. My motherboard (Gigabyte Aorus X570 Elite WiFi) tends to load it to 1.5v automatically quite often, leading to erratic temperature spikes, sometimes in excess of 80 degrees Celsius in a custom water loop with 2 360mm 32mm thick radiators. When running Cyberpunk 2077, causing my GPU to add heat to the loop, I’ve seen temperatures as high as 91 degrees Celsius. Frankly, I didn’t expect temperatures to be quite so high in my instance, I may be doing something wrong. It sure feels like it, as reviewers do not seem to be having similar experiences. The vast majority of users can get away with an AMD 5600X, at 6c/12t and good clock speeds, you’re not missing a whole lot, especially in games. With them being highly more available, I’d suggest most people to start there. The reality of a product like this is it’s either for the flex, or you have needs dramatically different from the standard PC user. This is a product more directed at power users, the kind of people who run multiple virtual machines, or many different, intensive programs simultaneously, or heavily scalable CPU-centric workloads, such as physics simulations, scientific applications or 3D rendering that doesn’t fit inside of a GPU’s VRAM.

This is an excellent CPU. It works very well for gaming, and absolutely blows the doors off any other consumer desktop CPU I’ve used for the compiling, rendering, and encoding tasks I do for work. B&H’s service was also excellent. Their waiting list worked well, and shipping was extremely prompt.

Wanted the extra cores for video processing. Cuts rendering time substantially.

Ensure to update the BIOS with latest AGESA ComboV2 1.2.0.0. That improves the power management much better. Since I am upgrading from i7 965, the multiple task is improved 7x.

I replaced a Ryzen 7 2700 with this one. I am doing hobby 3Dvideo an animation. Since I got the new 5900x, I noticed that rendering time shrunk drastically. And unfortunately, I am still using my old Nvidia geforce 1060. What would it be with a new 3070? Most probably a totally different world.

Very fast 12 core processor with multi-threading. Unless you want to spend more for a DDR5 based system you can’t do better right now.

Have had no issue’s since getting it .. installed fine. Of note .. be aware of the higher temps & occasional temp spike .. so make sure to have a high end air cooler or good AIO installed onto it. I have a Coolit 240 AIO on it with a push pull fan configuration & i get idling between 32-39c & on load maxs out around 62c. In preformance vs my previous 3600X (i have a video on my youtube channel showing it) there is quite a preformance diffrence. In pubg I went from average 80-120 fps to a whopping 180-290 fps !! And in video editing with windows live movie maker … a 15 minute HD rendered out video went from almost 3 minutes in encoding on the 3600X to 1 minute 53 seconds on the 5900X. Only negative I can say which kinda goes against B&H is how the box showed up bashed up … Lucky the cpu packaging was safe. (UPS is bad). BUT that said It came in proper timeframe & cpu was safe so thumb up B&H .. but be more careful packaging a higher priced product in the future.

2 days from order to arrival is pretty great, especially from a site that isn’t Amazon or Newegg. Prices for this epic CPU are coming down, making it a better value every day. Unless you’re running massive datasets or something, this processor can handle almost anything you throw at it. Highly recommend.

This thing is a beast. Runs cool at normal settings and PBO + Curve Optimizer make it run hot but fast!

AMD is on a roll with Ryzen but they have unfortunately cheaped out on packaging. Theyre reusing packaging for theyre lesser CPUs that have a small box cooler and filled the empty spot with a folded peice of card board. I still think it was nice to get a free cooler but if theyre gonna take them away they should make the CPU safer. Ive seen 5900x and 5950x ruined becuase the package was misshandled and the pins were destroyed. My box from b and h had minimal air pack and looked like ot was drop kicked, thankfully the damage to the CPU box was on the opposite side of the CPU. So packaging was a failure for both amd and b and h but amd should put more or safer packaging for their CPU since theyre saving money not providing a cooler anymore.

Runs cool, great frame rates, what’s not to love. Intel CPUs run hot glad I moved to AMD.
